How to export a PDF file from Indesign

Exporting a PDF file from Indesign

Here are the basic settings to follow for creating a PRESS pdf from Adobe Indesign.

1. Ensure you document is the correct size. F or this exampl e we will be exporting a double sided business card. We will set out Margins and Bleed at 3mm.

2. You can now see our document has been created. The black line is the document size (or trim down size).

The inner pink line is the Margin giving us a guide of a 3mm inset from the trim down and the orange line is where we need to make sure the document bleeds out to.

3. Here is how we would lay out the colour with full bleed.

4. When our art is complete, we select File>Export>Adobe PDF. At the top we select PRESS Quality.

5. Next, select Marks and Bleeds and tick All Printer's Marks and Use Document Bleed Settings.

6. Export your file, name it thoughtfully (i.e. job name and number, your business name etc) and then open the PDF and check that it looks correct.

The file should look like this. The inner black crop marks are the trim down marks and as you can see the colour bleeds 3mm out.

7. Your file is now good to send. Please email us if you require further information.
